Design Problem/scenario:  Students will participate in the G10 go-kart race and go-kart show. Using knowledge learnt about sustainability, product life cycle, and ergonomics students must design and create a new go-kart for racing and for the go-kart show.

  2. Create a list of Design Specifications, based on ACCESSFM + Competition Judging Criteria (30min)​

ACCESSFM

  • Aesthetics - Consider appearance, style, colour, shape/form, texture, pattern, finish, layout.

  • Cost - Is there a maximum cost? Is this a material cost/time cost/selling cost?

  • Customer - Who it is for? What is the target user’s age, gender, socio-economic background?

  • Environmental considerations - Where will the solution be used? How will the design directly or indirectly affect the environment?

  • Function - What it must do? What is its purpose? Where will the product be stored? How easily can it be used/maintained?

  • Manufacturing - What resources are available? Are there limitations as to how this can be created? How much time is needed to create the design?

  • Materials - What materials are available? What properties do the materials need to have?

  • Safety - What safety factors need to be incorporated into the design?

  • Size - Are there any specific sizes that need to be considered? What “human factors” need to be considered? What anthropometric data needs to be considered?

Speed

  • one driver for the whole journey

  • distance = width of a soccer field (50m) 

  • safety - if the vehicle is unsafe you will be disqualified

Design / Aesthetics

  • wheel style and shape (5 points)

Revised (online learning) Design Brief: Mr Watson is looking for an outstanding Go-Kart Design, to build in the future. The Go Cart will be used by G10 students in the G10 Bangkok go-kart race and go-kart show 2021. Using knowledge learnt about sustainability, design, and ergonomics students must design and create a new go-kart for racing and for the go-kart show. The design will be presented as a 2 page A4 (landscape) promotional advertisement for PEERS/CLIENT/TARGET AUDIENCE to review. Mr Watson is looking for speed, comfort, agility, style and, he loves the planet, so he wants it to be made from sustainable materials.
